The airport has heightened security measures in place and extra police patrols. Pittsburgh International Airport is working with the every government enforcement agency and the airlines on a continual basis to ensure security at the airport.

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ALLOWS CURBSIDE DROP OFF/PICK UP FOR PASSENGERS

Pittsburgh, PA (September 24, 2001) - Effective today, air travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport can be dropped off and picked up at the ticketing level curbside, Landside Terminal. Commercial vehicles including cabs, limos, courtesy vans and buses are dropping off and picking up at the baggage claim level of the Landside Terminal. While the vehicle is dropping off/picking up at the terminal curbsides, someone needs to remain in the car. Any car left unattended at the terminal curbsides or parked illegally will be towed immediately.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority worked in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration to implement these changes. These changes are made within the heightened security measures currently in place at the airport and have been approved by the FAA.

Additional restrictions: There is still no curbside baggage check-in. Only ticketed passengers are permitted pass the security checkpoint. Both carry-on and checked baggage may be subjected to searches.

UPDATE!!! OCTOBER 1, 2001: Curbside check- in has been reinstated at Pittsburgh International Airport.
